Every year, there are a lot of fires in homes and businesses. The majority of those will have begun unintentionally. However, it's possible that some were started with intent. It takes skill and patience to conduct a fire investigation and determine the cause of any given fire. ​ Explosives and explosive devices, which can be sophisticated (such as commercially manufactured explosives and explosive devices) or simple (such as homemade explosive mixtures incorporated into homemade devices), require the same level of expertise. Accidental explosions can occur when certain chemicals accidentally mix together. A forensic chemist with sufficient experience can determine whether a particular chemical mixture has the potential to explode.
